today... my doing what i love meant baking 

my first strawberry pie.  

it is in the fridge setting right now.

it took WAY too long to make due

to my poor organizational skills in the kitchen.

all i can hope is that it will be delicious!

"it's a hoot" KLEENEX BOX!!!

a while ago (like in september of last year),

i was school shopping for my son doing that darn

list.  the list that says; pencils, paper, eraser, markers

glue.  toward the end, the list gets sorta weird

and asks for things like paper towels, or plastic

bags...  and my list said a box of tissue.  so off to the correct 

isle i went.  now, my criteria for tissue is simple...  the best box.

i want the best box (which as you know can be hard)!

right?

i sat there looking... when i started to wonder

how on earth someone gets that job?  how does one

get to design a kleenex box?  then i thought... i could make

a cool kleenex box.  i sure wish i could do that.

(this is true, i really wished that)

THEN (literally) two days later there is an email

from Kimberly Clark in my etsy inbox...  hi there it says.

i am an art director for Kimberly Clark and i was on etsy,

and i saw your work and we would like for you to design

a kleenex box for us.

well...

YIPPEE!!!

(and yes)

followed by a little celebration dance.

so here is my contribution to the decorating world.

i sure hope you enjoy it.

i am terrifically excited about it!

*now... these photos are not mine, they are from a 

lovely lady who was kind enough to photograph her

box for me (thank you Amy) .  my fear is that i will

never see my box grace the shelves of our local shops

here on the palouse.  but i

will be on the lookout!!!

karenza paperie!

i amaze myself daily by all the things i do 

not get... or understand.  i suppose you could say

i am a simple thinker.  

 i understand a lot about pencils and pens,

perhaps a bit about pattern even.

BUT, i fail to understand how to share stuff

(always thinking, why would anyone want to know

this about me?  why should i share that?  if i talk about

this i will sound like such a braggedy brag brat).  

so i don't share.

because who likes a bragger?

BUT... i am also starting to realize fully, that

i live and work in the studio, and that is a lonely

place.  a place where i can't say, HEY!  look at

this cool blog post someone wrote about me.

isn't that nice? there is no one here to smile

at me, or even acknowledge that it happened,

which makes my favorite place (the studio)

feel a little bit isolating.

so today i am sharing a link with you about 

me!  it is on a lovely blog called Karenze Paperie,

STAPLETON gig!

So...

these photos came to me on friday last week,

so i thought i would share them!  

what you are looking at is an illustration i

did for STAPLETON, a lovely neighborhood in Denver, CO

(my stomping grounds for nine years).

I have never done an illustration that became so big

(literally).

my fave is the train.  how cool is that?  a train, (a train)!

truly a career highlight for me!

hope you are all well... spring feels like it has not

arrived here on the palouse, although the flowers seem 

to feel that it is here (which is nice).  i just wish the snow,

rain, hail, slush, would stop and the sun would shine.  

oh... mr. sun please come shine on me.

on a side note, i am in the throws of a month of art/craft shows.

i have done two in the past three weekends, and i have another

next weekend.  THEN- i plan on painting for the following 7 weeks

to prepare for the cherry creek art festival (Denver), and the 

BAM art fair (Bellevue, WA) show.

I can hardly wait to get dirty again.  it feels like ages

since i have played with my paints.

okay everybody...  have a great week.  work hard and

make time for some fun.

copyrighting your work.

without going in to great detail, i have been working

on licensing stuff these days, and in one of my contracts

it reads that i have to copyright all the images being used.

!!!  freak out here !!!

all i could think was, 

THIS IS GOING TO COST A FORTUNE!!!  ugh....

(i mean i won't even make a dime on any of this

for over a year, and now i have to pay a small

fortune to protect my work).  lordy,

what next?

anyway...  this is where the good news comes in.

my agent (the lovely miss sheila meehan) came across

this blog post which basically says you can submit

your work in bulk.  in bulk!  how awesome is that.

so what i thought was going to set me back,

now is setting me back 35 buckaroo's.

tulsa health department

you may not know this about me,

BUT...  before i started painting my paper

ladies, i worked as a full time illustrator.

one of my clients is/was the Tulsa health department (thd).

a couple of years ago i helped work on a set of

television commercials for THD .

I did this in conjunction with Littlefield ad agency (out

of Tulsa), and INTAKE Studio's (out of Wichita, Kansas).

(and they won Addy's too!!!).

that said, i am just beginning another round of commercials for thd

as we speak, which made me realize i hadn't shared

the first round of work with you.

it was the first time i had ever worked doing

animation (and MAN is that an amazingly difficult thing

to wrap your brain around).

and here i go again!

hope it is a bit easier this time...

i had never heard of fontifier

until the day before  yesterday...

this CHANGES things drastically for me.

i do a lot of commercial handwriting, and this

THIS...  will make things  a lot easier.

(i plan on making many many more!)

i recommend this highly.
