a while ago (like in september of last year),
i was school shopping for my son doing that darn
list. the list that says; pencils, paper, eraser, markers
glue. toward the end, the list gets sorta weird
and asks for things like paper towels, or plastic
bags... and my list said a box of tissue. so off to the correct
isle i went. now, my criteria for tissue is simple... the best box.
i want the best box (which as you know can be hard)!
right?
i sat there looking... when i started to wonder
how on earth someone gets that job? how does one
get to design a kleenex box? then i thought... i could make
a cool kleenex box. i sure wish i could do that.
(this is true, i really wished that)
THEN (literally) two days later there is an email
from Kimberly Clark in my etsy inbox... hi there it says.
i am an art director for Kimberly Clark and i was on etsy,
and i saw your work and we would like for you to design
a kleenex box for us.
well...
YIPPEE!!!
(and yes)
followed by a little celebration dance.
so here is my contribution to the decorating world.
i sure hope you enjoy it.
i am terrifically excited about it!
*now... these photos are not mine, they are from a
lovely lady who was kind enough to photograph her
box for me (thank you Amy) . my fear is that i will
never see my box grace the shelves of our local shops
here on the palouse. but i
will be on the lookout!!!
OOx,

ReplyDeleteClearly the coolest Kleenex box EVER!!! It makes me love you even more that you think this is cool, I sure do. What's better than making it into everyone's house and classroom? I'll be on the look out for one (or more) or these boxes!
ReplyDeleteI must run out and buy 50 boxes...even though I haven't ever bought kleenex in my married life. I excited for you! I could just imagine running around walmart with a box, shoving it in everyone's faces. "See this box? Don't you LOVE it?!"
ReplyDeletewhat a wonderful story of serendipity! :)love it!!! and the box is beeeauuutiful!!!
ReplyDeleteHoly Shit! I wrote a blog post a while back saying I'd love to be licensed by Gelaskins... which didn't magically happen, BUT a good friend of mine did message me that night saying that his fiance is very good friends with the founder of Gelaskins and that he will show him my artwork whenever I want! Not nearly as cool as your story but still, serendipity rocks :)

ReplyDeleteLove the tissue box so cute! I will let you know if I come across it in the UK - not likely!
ReplyDeleteI have placed a big trade order today so lots of your new cards should be arriving sometime soon (I ordered more of your cards than anything else!) I can't wait for them to arrive as they looked so sweet when I saw them at PG Live during the week. Once they are here I will let you know as I have a competition planned - very exciting!
That is SO exciting! I have to go to the store NOW to try to find them! Great story as well. Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteI agree...most boxes are ugly! I search and search for a decent design. When yours comes out I will buy 12!
ReplyDeletecongratulations Corrie! How exciting this must be. Who would of thought a Kleenex Box with your illustrations! I have to say I feel your will most surely be printed and put into stores. Keep up the positive feeling and don't forget to breathe!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, that is so awesome! I totally buy kleenex boxes based on the illustrations. I can't wait tog et yours!
ReplyDeleteScooted over here from Studio Cherie to read your story - how awsomely inspiring. Your artwork is amazing and I would love to find that tissue box. If I find one in Australia I'll let you know. Keep on creating.
ReplyDeletei found one of these in a store in a detroit suburb -- it was the last one there. it took some real google-fu to locate your etsy site, since your name's nowhere on the box (if you add the "it's a hoot" title from the bottom of the box to the text in this entry, i think more people might find you). congratulations and i hope more people find your wonderful art.
ReplyDeleteps, the way your face is scrunched in the profile photo reminds me of lil the dancer in twin peaks: fire walk with me.
Wow! How awesome is that? Congrats! this makes me want to design a Kleenex box : )
ReplyDeleteI love the owls. They're fabulous and fun. Beautiful and awesome work.
ReplyDeleteI just spent 10 minutes going through Kleenex boxes to find your owl-I think I got the last one. Yeah! It's so cute- this one's a keeper.
ReplyDeletei still have not seen the darn thing!!!
ReplyDeleteI just bought a box today! I didn't need tissues but I have a big "owl crush", so I bought them w/o question :) I wanted to show my friend the box (she too has an owl crush), so I Googled "kleenex owl box" so I could just send her a link, instead of snapping pictures with my iPhone... anyways, I came across this blog entry, and wow! how cool that you were contacted by them to use your artwork! :) Congrats!
ReplyDeleteomgosh, those are adorable! congrats! ;)
ReplyDeleteThat is such an amazing, fantastic story. WELL DONE! =D
ReplyDeleteI just bought the last box at my local grocery store! My daughter has a great love for all things pertaining to owls,so I was thrilled to find these. It will go with everything else in her room. Thanks :)
ReplyDeleteI just bought your Kleenex box yesterday and googled for pics to put on my blog because it's just so stinkin' cute. What a great story of how this came to fruition. Let me know if you don't find a box and I'll send one to ya. Meanwhile, here's another pic.

That is crazy awesome!!!!
ReplyDeleteI love your work (it makes me happy) and now I really need some kleenex.
Also, has anyone sent you any boxes yet?
ReplyDeleteIf not, I'll totally send you some if I can find them at the store.
I was trying to find a picture today of the Owl Kleenex box to show my mom... got one the other day at our local store and it's our first "decoration" for our coming baby's room! And I came across this post.
ReplyDeleteSo great to see that you actually designed it! That's so awesome! You did a great job! I absolutely am in love with it and I want to go back and get more "Hoots" before they are sold out. Great job!
Whoa - best Kleenex ever...Congratulations, this is huge!
ReplyDelete♥ Tiffany
Just ask any of my friends - I've ranted and raved for years, wishing someone would make a decent looking design on the outside of a Kleenex box. And finally - you have done just that! You are my hero! Thank you, thank you! Just saw your work for the first time last weekend at the Bellevue Art show, and had to check out your site. I love what you do. Thanks for sharing it with the world.:-)
ReplyDeleteany sightings?
ReplyDeleteI've been looking for these since I saw the post. I found 2 at the Genuardis on Phoenixville, PA. Bought them both. Super cute.
ReplyDeleteAs a native of Garfield WA I have long been a fan of your artwork, I thought in moving to Boston that I would be reduced to buying off etsy and begging family members to travel to Moscow to get new pieces. I was amazed on Wednesday to find one of these owl boxes in my local supermarket in Boston. Small world and congrats on the design, it's adorable!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE this box. I found them at my local Giant food store, and bought them all.
ReplyDeleteBrings a smile.
I bought this owl box at my local Publix recently & LOVE it! It was the only one on the shelf, and I went back last night, trying to find more. No luck, and I've been on the lookout everywhere for more, but that one box is all I've found so far. It is absolutely the best Kleenex box design of all time! I love it so much, I googled "Kleenex Expressions" + the name "It's a Hoot," in a desperate effort to find where I could buy it online.
ReplyDeleteThat's how I came across your site. What a great story about your getting asked to do this design! Congratulations! I'll keep on the lookout for the box and, in the meantime, I plan to open the one I have up on the bottom & refill it with tissues until I can find another owl box. It's the best!
Hi Cori!
ReplyDeleteI found your Kleenex box at Ralph's in Los Angeles yesterday. I wrote about it on my owl blog too! http://cutehoots.blogspot.com/2011/10/look-what-i-found.html
Warmly,
Susan
I too found you through Google, and I'm so glad I did! Your work is SO lovely! I'm about to go and explore your Etsy shop. I wish you all great success and happiness!
ReplyDeleteBe still my heart!!! Have you seen that Kleenex also has purse packs with owls and car boxes with owls? I have been a fan of yours for a long time, so this is perfect! Thank you.
ReplyDeleteI just had to write to tell you I had a similar experience to several of the commenters here. I found your box at a grocery store in Queens, NY, and loved it!! It looked so great in my little boy's room. Alas, we finished the tissues and can't find another box anywhere. I contacted Kleenex to tell them they should offer a line of re-usable boxes. Yours would be a great design to start!! Best of Luck,
ReplyDeleteJill
I have ALWAYS wanted to put a design on a Kleenex box!!! I think I will make that one of my goals . . . . BTW, I LOVE yours!!!
ReplyDeleteI bought your cute Kleenex owl box at Safeway in Berkeley CA today. I love it! They have quite a few on the shelves. I'm tempted to buy more.
ReplyDeleteMy boyfriend surprised me with your kleenex box as a gift, because owls are my favorite. I've been looking at it all week, and am so in love with your style! I will be spoiling myself in your etsy store soon, and actually would adore getting your art as a tattoo one day. Fantastic!!!
ReplyDeleteI bought your box of kleenex today... we weren't even out of tissues... I just bought it because the box was so cute!
ReplyDeleteI was just telling my sister, who also loves Owls, about the awesome box of Kleenex I'd just bought to grace my desk. I searched to find images so she could see what it looks like, and lo and behold, I found the person who designed this piece of awesomeness! Thank you! HOOT!
ReplyDeleteAhh thanks for making such a cute box! I just happen to see this at the store and was soooo excited about how cute it is!
ReplyDeleteI have this box in my bathroom!! I picked it up today, and was so taken with the owls, that I tried to look up 'kleenex box owl', and here I was taken! I love it, thanks for making my bathroom cuter!! :)
ReplyDeleteHi! I bought this box of tissue because of the beautiful owls . . .would have bought more if I could have found them. I was in a sorority in college (Chi Omega) that the owl was the significant symbol. But would have bought it no matter what. I love your art. Just found your cards in a store in Boulder, Colorado. Now I found all your art. Love. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteHa! I just used your kleenex box design as inspiration for a rather large tattoo on my back. I brought the box into my tattoo artist and said, "I love this! I like the whimsical flowers. Can you do something with this?" And she did. It's beautiful and fun. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteI only learned about your Kleenex boxes recently and haven't been able to get my mitts on one yet, crossing fingers that serendipity will smile on me still!
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteI wanted to let you know that I loved your Kleenex box so much I searched the internet to find the illustrator.. which lead me to this blog. I finished using the tissues from the box long ago.. the box itself is still kept neatly on my dresser top because it is far too cool to throw away... Can't wait to see your other work! Great job
Wow, so much excitement about an owl tissue box! Me too! I'm looking to purchase more as a gift for someone who loves owls! Ilissa Banhazl, Marriage and Family Therapy in Glendora CA. 626-335-0903
ReplyDeleteI found ONE box of Kleenex enhanced with this ADORABLE design at my local CVS Pharmacy. I wish I could find one hundred more!! Love owls, love your art!!
ReplyDeleteI found one of your Kleenex boxes about a month or so ago. It brightens up my desk at work. When I used all the Kleenexes I refilled it carefully from a new box....that wasn't nearly as cute as yours. .
ReplyDeleteFound one - a diamond in a shelf of coal at my local QFC in Bellevue (Lake Hills) WA. It was the ONLY one of yours there! It's like finding a golden ticket in a Willy Wonka chocolate bar!!! ~ vw
ReplyDeleteI just had to say, I bought a Kleenex box with your design on it - best one of the lot by far! Since your name wasn't on it anywhere I google-ed "owl Kleenex box" to find you and tell you how much I loved your work. Why oh why don't they have the illustrators name on these.
ReplyDeleteI found one box @ Meijer's in Louisville, KY b/c it matches my Owl Shower Curtain. I went back to buy the rest of them and they were gone! :( sad, sad!
ReplyDeleteCongrats! The reason I came across your blog is because I am actually online looking to replace my Kleenex box. I purchased the one with your artwork, and I am desperately wanting to replace it with the exact same one. I should have bought ten of them when I had the chance! I still have the box...I won't throw it away! Wish I could buy it online! Congrats, and I hope you get to design more boxes! Love your work! Jenn
ReplyDeleteAha! I just found your Etsy store....cool beans!
ReplyDeleteSo, its winter and we all are sick so I go to the store and see owls on the box (cute owls), grab and go. I leave them in the car but we're so sick we use everything inside and I run outside and get the owl box and after sneezing I look closer..and discover its YOUR box, your art, that I was always following on my old computer and lost your name and etsy link. So 2 years later since you did the box, here I am with your tissues. I'm going back for LOTS more! Congratulations!!!!
ReplyDeletecongratulations they are posting on the craft site that i follow that they are buying the tissues just for your design in Tesco, i don't have a Tesco near me so a special trip is planned, so gorgeous xx
ReplyDeleteI bought one of your Kleenex boxes because it was the best on the shelf! I later stumbled on another of your owls on Pinterest and followed the link to find your shop. I Googled to find out how it came to be....Kleenex gave you no credit on the box that I can find...and found your blog. Congratulations! Well-deserved. I love your work.
ReplyDeleteHi Cori,
ReplyDeleteI've had your "owl kleenex box" for a year or two now, and have refrained from using the kleenex from it because I like it so much and didn't want it to run out. But, today it finally ran out. I felt sad. I went online to see if I could purchase more, and came across your post, telling about the owl kleenex creation. Cool! Thanks for sharing your story. I hope someday I'll run across a second production of "Hoot" Kleenex.
Many best wishes,
Dana
